It's been a busy 2014 so far. Just wrapped up in the studio last week. I collaborated on a song with the founder of Sleep With The Angels, a non profit that provides help to women who are victims of domestic violence. Mike Daane, Jerry Saracini, Andy Timmons and Kelly Brown all lent their considerable talents and the song turned out amazing. I should have it available for download here really soon. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the foundation, which mainly provides coats and blankets to women and their children in shelters.
Last year I was "auctioned off" along with the super-talented Colin Hill as part of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's annual fundraiser. These folks are raising some serious money (and awareness) for C.F. research. So in early March, Colin and I will fulfill our end of the bargain and put on a Mardi Gras show for the big winners.
My band is gearing up for a whole bunch of wedding receptions this spring. We'll be traveling all over the state to bring our romantic vibes to the happy couples. If you haven't seen this side of the band check it out - we've created a place here on the web for just this purpose. The set list includes everything from The Isley Bros to Bruno Mars to Michael Franti to Daft Punk to Rolling Stones to Bon Jovi to Eli Young Band to Nat "King" Cole. Pretty fun, too.
If you're a fan of Jersey Mike's Subs then you know March is their amazing "Month of Giving". They raise a wacky amount of money every year for Dallas based "Wipe Out Kids Cancer". Seriousy, they've raised over $350,000 to date! The whole thing culminates on March 26 and I'll be playing at their Dallas Parkway store during the lunch rush to celebrate.
Galileo Church in Mansfield might be one of the most interesting and beautiful church starts I've ever heard of and their web site is pretty snazzy too! They've asked me to be their guest worship leader April 27. I am truly honored they would ask and can't wait to be there. You're invited too!
Boulevard Heights Elementary School here in Fort Worth is nothing short of amazing. They specialize in helping students with mental, physical and behavioral problems and I'm their choir teacher! With the help of my talented drummer-friend, Drew Ruiz, we provide an hour every week of intense group singing and we don't hold back. We cover everything from Faith Hill to Michael Jackson to American Authors. Occasionally we take this act on the road (e.g. Sears at Hulen Mall and other impressive venues).
Every Thursday evening, as you may know already, I pack up and head to the Piranha Sushi in Flower Mound. We're coming up on two years that I've been playing there every week. And every week is different. I've had just about everyone I can think of join me - singing cowboys, kids doing their best Katy Perry impressions, ukelele players, percussionists, a dude that sounded just like Johnny Cash. It's fun. I try to bring a handful of new songs every week too, just to keep it interesting. It'll be warm enough to go back out on the patio soon (I hope!).
Every Sunday morning I set down my raggedy old acoustic guitar and pick up the electric guitar and play it in a church band. Not your typical church band either. We compose alot of our own material and cover artists such as David Wilcox, Jackson Browne, Bruce Cockburn, Peter Mayer, Leonard Cohen, Mavis Staples, Kenny Loggins, Seryn and Cat Stevens. It's the eleven:eleven celebration at First United Methodist Church in downtown F.W. If you dig around in their video archives long enough you can probably find the service where I played the solo to Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb.
This summer I'll be flying out to the Blue Ridge Mountains for my sixth year as the music leader at Camp C.A.R.E. They bring in over 200 children who have been diagnosed with cancer and give them the biggest week of their lives at no charge whatsover to the families.
So there it is... a little snapshot of my life as a full-time musician. Hope you liked it!
